It was Friday, my sports day…
Like every self-respecting Romanian 😊, I don’t exercise outside the gym…
Until I reach the place where I’ll release all my tension, I go by car, in my case, a taxi, it doesn’t even matter which company it was.
A very kind driver helped me with everything I needed, seeing me in a situation more delicate from his point of view, and what he thought was, he didn’t want me to believe he hadn’t had experience with people with disabilities before, so he started telling me some things from his professional adventures.
This is where the comic-dramatic story begins because if it weren’t sad, it would be laughable.
Around the beginning of the pandemic, that is, during quarantine, mandatory masks everywhere, just to give some context.
He arrives at point X and there he is met by two clients, from the driver’s words, mute, it’s not relevant here whether they were also deaf or not.
What should the policeman do… He picks them up and heading towards the destination, the police stop him, pandemic “interrogation” “Where are you going? What are you doing?” The driver, confused, didn’t know what to answer the policeman, having all the necessary information in the taxi app, he didn’t need to interact further with the clients.
– Well, officer, I’m at work, it’s not my job to ask the clients where they are going and what they are doing.
The state official towards the passengers in the back seat of the car: “Do you have a certificate? Why aren’t you wearing a mask?” No answer. The policeman once again, in a louder tone, the travel certificate! “Why aren’t you wearing a mask?”
The car driver says: “Sir, they are mute.”
The brilliant reply from the law enforcement officer, then you talk to them!
Probably realizing the embarrassing situation he was in, he turned to leave…
But just to give himself another air of superiority, before walking away, he says to the driver, – I’ll let you go, but tell them they need to have a certificate and wear a mask!
One of those situations where you feel ashamed of others’ stupidity. What should the policeman do…
How should such an interaction between a state official and some deaf-mute citizens have properly taken place?
We await your comments!
