What is the app about
“Voice for Hands” is an application developed by the National Association of the Deaf in Romania (ANSR) that facilitates communication between deaf individuals and the rest of society by providing remote video interpretation services in Romanian Sign Language with just a few clicks. Developed under a project funded by the Orange Foundation, the application removes communication barriers that hearing-impaired individuals often face in daily life, while also promoting social inclusion.
This application not only facilitates access to essential services for deaf individuals but also contributes to the cultural and social recognition of Romanian Sign Language (LSR). We aim for this application to be adopted at the institutional, authority, and company levels, not just by individuals, thus leading to greater social and cultural recognition of the deaf community. It is also a very easy method to facilitate free expression for hearing-impaired individuals.
“Voice for Hands” is easy to use, accessible, and adapted for all users. The availability on multiple platforms, real-time interpretation, and rapid and efficient technical support are just a few elements that make this application an essential tool for integrating hearing-impaired individuals into society.
How to use it
The usage process is simple. Users, whether individuals or institutions, must request an account on the official site vocipentrumaini.ro. The application administrator will create the necessary accounts and provide authentication details via email. After receiving these details, the user logs into the application and selects the context of interpretation, such as the purpose or place where help is needed (e.g., bank, city hall, police). Once the context is selected, the user initiates a video call that is sent to available interpreters. The first interpreter to respond is connected to the user to start real-time interpretation, and from there, the conversation flows normally for all participants.
