I’ve Done Some Crazy Things Too…
Curious by nature, tempted by what I haven’t tried yet, and crazy, in the positive sense of the word, I’d say.
I meet up with a friend to go have a coffee.
He comes, picks me up, and while we’re heading to a location, I ask him, do you really want coffee? Without waiting for a response, I continue:
What do you say if we go somewhere with no risk of police and you teach me how to drive?
Hooo, I said it, I’ve wanted to do this for a long time, to drive, maybe the moment has come! That’s what I was thinking then. I was hoping, counting on my friend’s adventurous spirit and tons of courage.
He says to me, are you crazy?… I’ve done some crazy things too.
– No, not now, I’ve always been, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to get behind the wheel. 😊
I don’t know what the thought process was in his mind, but I hear:
I know a place with no crowd, a drivable road and hopefully, with little chance of encountering the police. 😊
We get there, it wasn’t far, otherwise, I don’t know how I would have managed my enthusiasm.
Ooo, I’m going to drive! 😉
I get behind the wheel, he’s in the passenger seat.
He explains to me how the gear shift, clutch, accelerator, and brake work because, guess what, it was a manual car.
I, being attentive and obedient, understood, remembered, and let’s apply.
After that, the job of the companion was to take care of the car’s direction (slightly left, slightly right), until I learned what “slightly” meant in driving, there were three hands on the steering wheel.
But I did it.
The satisfaction was immense.
I can’t put into words how I feel when I see that it’s possible!
Technology supports us in this sense, now we just need the Romanian infrastructure to help us and the blind person will drive.
I don’t encourage you to put your life in danger, but don’t let yourself be defined by a disability either.
Limits are what we impose on ourselves.
Before making things accessible, we must allow ourselves to dream, to try, and then to formulate a solution.
Until then, let’s implement the solutions that already exist.
