Adding alternative text to images is an important step in the document accessibility process. This text, also known as “alt text,” provides a verbal description of the image for users who cannot see the image directly.
Clear and easy-to-read fonts are also important in making documents accessible for people with visual or cognitive disabilities. This involves using character types that are easily recognizable and understandable, even under reduced visibility conditions or during fast reading.
Adding additional navigation elements allows users to quickly and efficiently access the document’s content. A table of contents or a navigation list provides an overview of the content and allows direct access to relevant sections. Also, internal links and reference elements help guide readers through the document and highlight important information.
By using appropriate semantic tags and corresponding paragraph styles, documents become easier to understand and interpret by different programs and assistive technologies.
